Press Release

For Immediate Release – October 15, 2014

Ryan Hanifl’s full-length album Sourpuss mixed by Jason Wormer (Elton John, NIN, Robert Plant, T-Bone Burnett)

Ryan Hanifl (Vocalist/ Songwriter/ Multi Media Composer) landed on the LA music scene over 10 years ago after graduating from Berklee College of Music in Boston to work alongside famed Hollywood film composer Hans Zimmer. Since then, Ryan has been composing music and performing in bands across the Los Angeles area and the Midwest. You might have heard his music in national advertising spots for Honda, KIA, & Toyota, or any of the hundreds of television shows Ryan has composed music for over the past decade.

Ryan has been in several highly acclaimed bands – Vertices, Your Horrible Smile, The Hugeness, and currently LA’s newest indie-rock buzz band, Black Belt KARATE. He also fronts the internationally hailed “epic-rock” band GLOBUS, which enjoys a world-wise fan base garnering millions of YouTube views each year and multiple placements in theatrical film trailer advertising.

With influences ranging from Jeff Buckley, Thom Yorke, Antony and the Johnsons, and Damian Rice, to contemporary composers Max Richter, Jóhann Jóhannsson, and Sigur Rós, Ryan’s music is hard to classify upon first hearing. His current solo efforts are laden with emotionally charged, melodic, dark textures, with rousing string arrangements woven in evocative dissonance to complement his anthemic vocal performances. “Music to me can be that feeling you get – sometimes at the end of a long cold day, when your restless and tired, like when all is quiet out and you find yourself dosing off to the sounds of the night, of wind chimes maybe in the distance, and you lay your head down softly – that warm pillow sleep.”

An alumnus of LA’s own songwriters institution, The Hotel Café, Ryan will be performing a tight intimate set of new material Friday, Nov 7th with special guest musicians Chris Thierbach (Hudson, Katy Perry) on Harp, Carson Cohen (Meiko) on Bass and Guitar, violinist Hiro Goto (Marco Antonio Solís, Globus, Immediate Music), Frank Petrilli on Accordion, and Sarah Scarlatta (Prince, Blind Melon) on percussion.

Ryan is currently working on a follow-up to his debut Sourpuss. This will be a very special, intimate, and engaging performance not to miss.
